Malinda’s first 5 children were born in Wheeler, Steuben County, New York. Around 1835, the Casterline family, along with members of the Miles and Saxon families, including Malinda’s parents, moved from Wheeler, New York to Fayette County, Indiana. The journey took six weeks by oxen and wagons.

In 1838 Malinda’s husband Ira patented almost 150 acres of land in Blackford County, Indiana, where the family moved, settling near Hartford, present day Hartford City. Malinda’s parents and her brother James also moved to Blackford County and lived next to the Casterline’s, likely on the land Ira patented.

Son Edward was born in May of 1838, likely in Fayette County.

In 1842 Malinda gave birth to daughter Mahetable in May. Sadly it was followed by the death of 9 year old son John in September.

In August of 1845 daughter Elizabeth married Henry Housholder. In December Malinda gave birth to daughter Lydia.

In January of 1849 Charlotte married Abner Hedge and in August Malinda gave birth to her youngest daughter Mary.

Around 1850 daughter Elizabeth Housholder moved with her family to Illinois, eventually settling in Hebron County.

In 1852 18 year old son Loammy died in February and Malinda’s mother died in March.

In 1856 Ira, Malinda and their youngest children, James, Edward, Alva, Mahetable, Lydia and Mary, moved to Illinois, likely to Hebron County where their daughter Elizabeth lived. They lived in Illinois for about 2 years then moved north across the Illinois border to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. In Lake Geneva son James met and married Mary Rowe. By 1860 the family moved back to Blackford County, Indiana, without sons Edward and James who remained behind.

In 1862 Malinda’s father died in September at the age of 100. Malinda’s daughter Mahetable married David F Miles in December.

Malinda Saxon Casterline died on December 17, 1863, at the age of 56 in Blackford County, Indiana. She was buried in Miles Cemetery near Hartford City, Indiana.
