Solomon Dill was born in Delaware in 1791. He married Mary “Polly” Turner on January 31, 1815 in Muskingum County, Ohio. Solomon Dill died on January 11, 1848 near Saltillo, Perry County, Ohio.
Solomon Dill was born in Delaware in 1791. While his parents are currently unproven, Solomon likely descended from one of the Dill families of Kent County, Delaware. Much of what is known about Solomon Dill is recorded on his wife's pension application and in her obituary.
By 1812 Solomon Dill lived near Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio, where he enlisted in Capt. James Whimps Company of Ohio Militia on August 20, 1812 as a rifleman. While his wife's War of 1812 pension application stated Solomon fought in the Battle of Maumee River Rapids, the discharge date on his service record, February 19, 1813, indicates otherwise. Following the war, Solomon married Mary Turner, also known as Polly Turner, and settled in Newton Township in Muskingum County, Ohio.
Solomon and Mary Dill had eleven children, although only 6 have been identified:

In the US 1820 Census, Solomon lived next to Burton Dill, John Dill Sr. and John Dill Jr. John Dill Sr. patented land in Newton Township first in 1814 and again in 1820. No land patents or land deeds have been found for Solomon Dill so it does not appear that he owned any real property. Ohio tax records support this since in subsequent years, Solomon Dill was taxed for a horse and cattle, but no real estate. Likely, he lived and worked on John Dill's farm.
John Dill and his wife Elenor, began to sell parts of their property in 1823 to William Dill and several others. William Dill and his wife Phebe, also sold a part of the land purchased from John Dill. In 1837 William Dill was taxed for 153 acres of the patented land originally granted to John Dill. In 1838 William Dill's heirs were taxed.
In the US 1840 census, Solomon was the only person with a Dill surname recorded in Newton Township. He and Mary had 3 children at home, Mary Ann, Lewis and Rebecca.
Sometime after the census, Solomon and Mary relocated to Perry County, Ohio, near Saltillo, where Mary's relative William Turner, relationship currently unknown, lived. William owned 79 acres of land in Harrison Township.
From the pension depositions it is known that Solomon Dill died near Saltillo on January 11 of 1848 or 1849. Mary Dill's deposition in 1850 said her husband died in 1848. In her deposition taken in 1855, she stated Solomon died in 1849. Their daughter Rebecca testified that she was present at her father's death. William Turner's deposition in 1850, stated that Solomon Dill died in 1848. Likely, Solomon's death occurred on January 11, 1848, the date given on depositions closest to his death.
Solomon Dill died at the age of 58. Following his death, Mary Dill lived with William Turner for several years. Their daughter Mary Ann married in Perry County in 1850. The two younger children, Lewis and Rebecca, were sent to live with their brother John in Butler County, Ohio.
