Palsy was sometimes the cause of death listed on historical records. Palsy was the term used to describe anyone who succumbed to a disease or event that resulted in paralysis followed by death. The paralysis could have been caused by a stroke, a blood clot, a progressive nervous disease such as Parkinson's, or a number of other conditions.
