Dropsy - Congestive Heart Failure
Nowadays dropsy would be called congestive heart failure – a condition wherein fluid collects around the heart, thereby rendering it unable to pump blood around the body. Just like today, dropsy may have been caused in the early 1900s by a number of factors, including high blood pressure, diabetes, or untreated heart disease.
